You Sexy Thing!

I’m thrilled to be moderating a panel at UniversalFanCon this year! Join us on the first day of the con, April 27th for…

Panel Description: Sure geeks are universal…but so is romance. Many think that just because we’re nerds that we’re not interested in, or good at, all things smexy. But that’s just not true. After all, GEEK isn’t the only thing that’s universal. Sex is as universal as it gets. Every person on Earth got here through sex. And when it comes to CONSENSUAL good sex, there are more humans chasing it than running from it. Show me a person who denies this, and we’ll sell you a bridge in Greenland that’s lined with emeralds and your own personal crew waiting to sing ‘We’re off to see the wizard!’ in five-part harmony.

When we sit down to read we want to escape, yet have enough reality where we can see ourselves in the story. So why aren’t there extraordinary books out there starring the geek of your dreams? There are. And there are a lot of them. However, if you’re not sure where or how to come by these marvelous works of art, come to our panel and talk to the authors who create them. That’s right, we’ve got you.

This panel covers:
1) Worldbuilding (all genres, from contemporary to sci-fi to fantasy)
2) How kinky can geeks get? (BDSM romance)
3) Flipping for badass gods, faeries, angels, etc. (Fantasy romance)
4) Comic/Video game genres (wrapping games & romance together)
5) Da skilled lovers (writing scenes: realistic or ridiculous?)
6) Fang-banging, video gaming romance (speaks for itself, doesn’t it?)
7) Can we have it all? YES! (Multi-cultural, interracial, LGBT romance)
8) From books to the big screen, geeky sex equals…shiny! (Firefly/sci-fi romance)

ICYMI: New Releases by Sylvia Day, Milly Taiden

New Releases from Milly Taiden, Sylvia Day and more!

Carly Toblan had a little too much champagne at her best friend’s wedding. Now she’s found herself flirting with a hunky shifter who’s bent on showing her how much he wants her. She’s never been with a shifter but suddenly this curvy girl is hearing the call of the wild up close and personal.

Bear-shifter, Bastien Auberon, knows two things for sure. 1. Carly is his mate and 2. She doesn’t want to want him. Too bad because she does. And he’ll use that unquenchable desire to get her to be his. He’d never used sex to keep a woman before, but in love and war, anything goes.

With her father sending eligible men her way, and someone trying to take his mate from him, Bastien’s ready to roar in frustration. He has a lot to figure out before he can get Carly into a forever state of mind. Claiming a woman had never been this difficult. Good thing he’s so persistent and will let nothing stand in his way.

This is THE LAST book in the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day

I actually know Sylvia in real life. We met while we were both writing for Ellora’s Cave. I read the first Crossfire novel before it was picked up by a publisher and I was floored! It was the wildest, most dysfunctional, wonderfully crafted piece of writing I’d ever read. It was, in a word, AWESOME!

So pick it up. You won’t be sorry!
Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws … and all the beauty I couldn’t see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free … or break us apart.

Heartbreakingly and seductively poignant, One with You is the breathlessly awaited finale to the Crossfire saga, the searing love story that has captivated millions of readers worldwide.

Gabriel Buchanan is a fighter. Once a marine, now he’s an Admiral and lawyer for Alliance Fleet. He spends his time taking on the tough cases no one else dares to touch. His life changed course after a messy divorce, making him vow never to love again. Until a hot blonde who matches his drive to fight shows up on his watch. She’s a real wildcat–one Gabe wants to get up close and personal with.

Wildcat Lead Warrior, Kelis, has problems of her own keeping amorous young warriors at bay. But that’s the least of her troubles–she has a secret she wants to keep at all costs. For Kelis is not just any warrior but the daughter of a Warlord with impeccable bloodlines. To her dismay, her father gives her an assignment she can’t refuse–infiltrating Alliance Fleet.

Gabe is pissed when the beautiful but lethal Kelis puts his protection detail in the medbay. What will he do when he finds out she’s his now personal bodyguard?

Sparks fly and tensions run high because Wildcats do it better…A statement Gabe is more than happy to put to the test. All…night…long.

Music Monday: 03-Nov-2014

The week has flown by and it’s already Tuesday! A bit slow getting my music up, but I think you’ll enjoy this pick.

As most of you know, I write a series called the Vampire Council of Ethics. One of my favorite villains in vampiredom is the character, Akasha, played by Aliyah alongside Stewart Townsend. In tribute to one of the bands who made the music for Queen of the Damned so freaking awesome my picK this week is: Cold by Static-X, whose lead singer passed away this weekend.

Enjoy and get your rock-and-roll on while you watch Queen of the Damned again. It never gets old!

Chocolaty Goodness

In case you don’t subscribe, I’d like to share this recipe that was in my recent newsletter (view entire newsletter HERE). If I were to link this to any of my books, I’d say this is something that Shinju in Hatsept Heat, Vampire Council of Ethics Bk 3, would make. She’s a professional and classically trained chef who dreams of one day having her own restaurant. She ends up revamping (pun intended ;D) the kitchens at the Northern Territory Headquarters of the Vampire Council in Montana…after becoming a Serati warrior, of course. And yes, she cooks for her man in the book. It makes for some interesting, uh, dessert.

I’m not a big raspberry fan, but this looks so good I want to see if I can get my daughter (she’s a pastry chef) to make this. Enjoy!

Heavenly Chocolate Raspberry Bundt

1 cup melted butter
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

12 ounces cream cheese
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups fresh raspberries

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Grease a bundt or tube pan.
  3. Make filling by creaming together, cream cheese with sugar and vanilla.
  4. Mix in chocolate chips and set aside.
  5. For cake, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.
  6. Beat eggs and gradually add the sugar and beat until the mixture is thick and pale yellow.
  7. Beat in melted butter, then milk, water and vanilla.
  8. Gradually add in the flour mixture and mix well.
  9. Spread half the batter into the prepared pan.
  10. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese filling evenly over the batter.
  11. Sprinkle raspberries over the top.
  12. Cover with remaining batter.
  13. Bake at 375 degrees for about 1 1/4 hours.

“I run a successful security firm, basically a bodyguard to some of the escorts that cater to the high-rolling vamps in our society.”

Jovon’s gaze rolled toward the ceiling. Why were vamps, the most sexual beings on earth, so narrow-minded in this area? She sighed, and then spoke slowly as if teaching a kindergartner. “No sex happens. That’s why I’m there. Basically, the escorts cater to men and women who haven’t had or made time for relationships but enjoy companionship. Besides, why show up at a high-dollar charity event alone when you can take runway-model material instead?”

“So here you are, a fashion doll’s muscle, headed into the investigation from hell. And single. I wonder…”

“Wonder what?”

“If you can handle it, Jovon.”

“Handle what? The mission?”

“Handle me.” He licked his lips as he watched her closely. “If you let me, I’ll rock your world.”

Gently stroking her jaw, he said, “And you still haven’t answered my question, Jovon. You don’t understand…what?”

She looked up at him. The mix of emotion that shone in her bright hazel eyes floored him. Her words even more so.

“I want you, Reis. And I don’t even know if I like you.” She chuckled, no heat behind the words. “Just not what I expected. Ever.”

“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t like you either,” he whispered as he sealed both their fates with a kiss that shattered her carefully cultivated calm.

His deep moan echoed her own the second she parted the seam of her lips to let him in. Reis was sweet cherry pie and cream followed by scalding-hot spice. And a woman was entitled to her dessert every now and then.

He tasted of mint and jasmine tea. And the way he moved his mouth over hers was confident, without hesitation and downright delicious. He dipped strong fingers into the hollows on either side of her spine, massaging her back as he pulled her closer. Soon she was wrapped up in him, literally, reveling in the strength that encompassed her.

God, she could lose herself in his kiss, his taste, his body…until his words actually sank into her desire-fogged and fairly overloaded brain.

She pushed him back using all her vampire strength. This time he barely moved.

“What do you mean you don’t like me?”

He threw his hands up and took a step back. Oh, he looked so adorably disgruntled. “What? What’d I say?”

“What did you say? Are you serious?”

He paused a moment and seemed to think it over. “How is it any different from what you just said?”

“I said I didn’t know if I liked you. I was still making up my mind. You, however, seem to have already come to a conclusion.”

“Really? Really, Jovon?” He looked as if she’d just crawled out of a crashed alien spacecraft and he wasn’t sure what to make of her. Well, she wasn’t sure what to make of herself either. For some reason, her hormones had shot out of control and landed beyond her reach totally on the wrong side of pissed-off. And she had no idea why.

Yep, the day was definitely catching up with her.

Well, whatever.

She snatched a clean towel off the rack, dabbed at the sweat on her brow and then stomped out of the room.

Without looking back, she snapped, “Good fucking night.”

She’d never know how she managed to bite back the smile brought on by Reis’s growl as it filled the air behind her. As she headed to her room, she shook her head at herself and considered how she’d gone from sinking into his kiss to taking his head off at the neck, and all at the speed of light.

PMS? Bonding? Maybe they were one in the same.

A voice caught her attention. It was a prime making his way around the room. He was a marvelous block of a man with a wild and strange energy about him. Even in her wiped-out, tired-to-the-bone state her brain still managed to pick him out of the bristling crowd.

The ropey muscle of his forearm was revealed by a three-quarter-sleeved silk mock turtleneck. Jovon’s gaze was pinned on that arm, watching the long, scarred fingers extend. She wondered what he did for a living that caused him to get scars like that, considering it was highly unusual for their kind to sustain any kind of lasting injury unless it was quite serious.

And look at that skin, she thought. Pale as fresh milk, yet it still held a warmth that made her want to dip her cookie in it.

Girlfriend, that’s just nasty. What’s wrong with you?

Snippet Saturday – A Little Tenderness…heh

This week’s Snippet Saturday theme is a bit deceptive. At first glance I thought, “Awwww, this is going to be a mushy post!” But after taking a closer look, the theme is actually *wait for it…* MAKING OUT!

But the challenge is finding a make-out scene that stops short of HAWT sex. Hmmmm… I’ve got an idea! How about a scene where the hero is making out with the heroine, but it’s all in her head. Literally.

When he dipped his head, she instinctively eased away, then wished her sense of propriety had stayed home.

“What’s wrong?” Kenoe whispered.

“We’re in public,” Shinju hissed through clenched teeth.

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“It’s just that, well, we don’t touch or neck in public. It’s a cultural thing.” She felt the features of her face morph into something between mortified and hungry. Must be because she really wanted to let her tongue take the same path across his mouth his had only seconds ago. God, she could have kicked herself for falling back on old behavior.

While her African-American grandmother encouraged Shinju to live her life as she chose, her grandma on her father’s side had always frowned on Shinju’s independent nature. The woman insisted on teaching her and her cousins proper public etiquette. Unfortunately those childhood lessons, which included a huge dose of “good girls don’t”, seemed to stick just now.

“And if we were visiting your relatives in the States, would there be any issues with PDA?” he asked, sweeping her back into the crowd. The bodies were thick on this particular patch of dance floor.

“PDA? You mean public displays of affection? Of course not. But it’s just not done here.” Which was one of the reasons Shinju always looked forward to her yearly summer trips to visit her stateside cousins. Once her feet hit the city streets of Atlanta, all bets were off. She didn’t sleep around, but she certainly did her share of ass shaking in the clubs, along with the occasional kiss or two from whatever beau her cousins set her up with for the duration of the trip. As a result she’d gathered quite a few pen pals over the years.

In fact she was due to meet up with her kin in a couple of weeks. Strangely enough, the expected thrill of a bit of freedom from the strictures of Japanese life didn’t appeal. It meant leaving Kenoe behind.

“So it’s a Japanese thing?” he asked, leaning in close. God, he smelled good. Like musk, hot sex and dangerous man.

“Duh.” She sniffed, batting playfully at the hands trying to pinch her ass.

“Fine, as long as it’s not an ‘I-really-don’t-want-to-be-seen-with-Kenoe’ thing.”

“Oh don’t get your boxers in a twist. It’s nothing personal.”

“We’ll see. Later.”

“Oh yeah? What’s going to happen later?”

“Well, my beautiful Shinju, I love that you’re a lady when on the street.” He lightly ran a single finger down her cheek, leaving a path in the sweat. It sent a shiver clear to her baby toes. “But I want a freak in my bed.”

“And who says I’ll end up in your bed?”

Snippet Saturday – Da Blues

This week’s theme is “They call it the blues.” And now that song by Elton John is stuck in my head — “And I guess that’s why they call it the blues. Time on my hands could be time spent with you. Laughing like children, living like lovers, rolling like thunder under the covers. And I guess that’s why they call it the blues.”

In anticipation of the next book in the Vampire Council of Ethics series, let’s go back in time just a little bit to a heart-breaking scene from Serati’s Flame, V.C.O.E. Book Two. Yep, Tameth Serati definitely has the blues and she has a good reason to. It’s called…men! :D Enjoy this snippet and then visit the other fabulous authors via the links at the bottom of the post. Alaan walked out the backdoor and stopped so quickly Tameth ran into the wall of his back. She tried to look around him but he was simply too tall. She couldn’t see a damned thing. Nudging him in the middle of his back and poking him in the ribs had no effect. Finally she stepped close, planted her foot in the back of his knee and pushed.

Alaan stumbled a few inches, just enough for Tameth to push her way around him and get through the doorway. Her katana cleared its sheath and whistled to a stop in midair. Her thoughts pushed against his and echoed his disbelief.

In unison, they silently gasped. “Oh God, this is not happening.”

Pale as a sheet, as if someone had drained every ounce of blood out of his body, her man stood and looked out towards what appeared to be contained chaos.

Two SUVs were parked on the gravel, engines still running. A score of people ran around the courtyard, all with some weapon or another drawn and at the ready. Randall was yelling into a hand-held radio.

Collins stepped up to Alaan, anxiety rolling off of him in waves.
